Hearing Center(Tinnitus Services)
As many as 40 million Americans experience tinnitus, a symptom commonly described as ringing, buzzing, or hissing in the ears or in the head (many other descriptions are also reported). Luckily, most people who experience tinnitus are not bothered by it, but it is estimated that the lives of 1-2 million people are significantly affected by tinnitus.
At Arkansas Otolaryngology Center (AOC), we treat tinnitus in a variety of ways depending on the cause and severity of the tinnitus after medical clearance has been obtained by one of our physicians. Hearing aids, noise generators and specialty devices like the Neuromonics Oasis device are used to treat tinnitus at our clinic. The decision on how to treat the tinnitus is a joint effort by our otologists, audiologists and our patients.
AOC provides assistance to those who seek help with tinnitus. The Neuromonics Tinnitus Treatment has been developed and refined over more than 10 years of research and clinical practice. Its success has been demonstrated in clinical trials involving hundreds of people with tinnitus and reduced sound tolerance.
The Neuromonics Oasis is a Class II medical device for treating tinnitus that uses individually customized signals for each ear to allow a broad frequency stimulus (up to 12.5 KHz) at a low-volume level.
Tinnitus patients MUST see a physician and be referred for tinnitus counseling and assistance. Some of these patients need psychiatric workups BEFORE audiological assistance.
