Preparing for your first visit

Antihistamines are medications that interfere with allergy testing. Many of these are listed below. Asthma inhalers do not need to be stopped prior to your visit.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact our clinic prior to your visit.

Check with the prescriber before stopping any of the medications on the timeframe listed in this section below:

  • Amitryptyline

  • Amoxampine

  • Benzodiazepines

  • Clomipramine

  • Clonazepam

  • Desipramine

  • Diazepam

  • Elavil

  • Imipramine

  • Lorazepam

  • Midazolam

  • Mirtazapine

  • Nortryptyline

  • Protriptyline

  • Quetiapine

  • Trazodone

  • Trimipramine

** If unable to stop any of these, call our clinic.

STOP THESE MEDICATIONS 10 DAYS PRIOR TO VISIT

  • Amoxampine, Clomipramine, Desipramine, Protriptyline, Trimipramine (Check with prescriber before stopping this medication)

  • Clemastine (Allerhist-1, Contact 12 Allergy, Tavist-1)

  • Cyproheptadine (Periactin) 

  • Imipramine (Tofranil) (Check with prescriber before stopping this medication)

  • Nortryptyline (Pamelor) (Check with prescriber before stopping this medication)

STOP THESE MEDICATIONS 7 DAYS PRIOR TO VISIT

  • Benzodiazepines (Clonazepam, Diazepam, Lorazepam, Midazolam) - (Check with prescriber before stopping this medication)

  • Brompheniramine (Brovex, Dimetane, Lodrane) 

  • Cetirizine (Zyrtec)

  • Chlorpheniramines (Chlortabs, AHIST, Aller-Chlor, Chlor-Allergy, ChlorPhen, Histex)

  • Desloratadine (Clarinex)

  • Dimenhydrinate (Dramamine) 

  • Doxepin (Adapin)

  • Fexofenadine (Allegra)

  • Hydroxyzine (Atarax or Vistaril)

  • Ketotifen (Zatiden)

  • Levocetirizine (Xyzal)

  • Loratadine (Claritin or Alavert)

  • Meclizine HCl (Antivert, Bonine)

  • Mirtazapine; Quetiapine (Check with prescriber before stopping this medication)

  • Trazodone (Check with prescriber before stopping this medication)

STOP THESE MEDICATIONS 3 DAYS PRIOR TO VISIT

  • Amitryptyline (Elavil) (Check with prescriber before stopping this medication)

  • Azelastine Nasal Spray/Eyedrops (Astelin, Astepro, Patanase, Dymista, Optivar, Ryaltris)

  • Cimetidine (Tagamet)

  • Diphenhydramine (Benadryl, Actifed, Banophren, Children’s Allergy, Diphen-allergy, Diphenhist, Dytuss, Q-Dryl, Tylenol PM; Nyquil (Doxylamine) check all over the counter sleep aids)

  • Methylscopolamine bromide (Extendryl)

  • Famotidine (Pepcid)

  • Meclizine (Antivert)

  • Olopatadine Nasal Spray/Eyedrops (Pataday/Patanase/Patanol/Pazeo)

  • Promethazine (Phenergan, Chlorpromazine, Thorazine, Prorex 25 & 50)

  • Ranitidine (Zantac)

DO NOT STOP

  • Asthma inhalers, Steroid nasal sprays (Flonase, Nasocort, Nasonex, Rhinocort, Xhance), Montelukast (Singulair) 

  • Decongestants (Mucinex, Sudafed) or ANY NON-ALLERGY/ ASTHMA MEDICATIONS NOT LISTED ABOVE
