Tinnitus Services

As many as 50 million Americans experience tinnitus, a symptom commonly described as ringing, buzzing, or hissing in the ears or in the head (many other descriptions are also reported). Luckily, most people who experience tinnitus are not bothered by it, but it is estimated that the lives of 1-2 million people are significantly affected by tinnitus.

At Arkansas Otolaryngology Center (AOC), we treat tinnitus in a variety of ways depending on the cause and severity of the tinnitus after medical clearance has been obtained by one of our providers. Hearing aids and masking techniques are used to treat tinnitus at our clinic. The decision on how to treat the tinnitus is a joint effort by our otologists, audiologists and our patients.

AOC provides assistance to those who seek help with tinnitus.  One treatment option is masking.  Masking is introducing a low-level sound to counteract with the sound of your tinnitus.  With our newest technology in hearing aids, you can use your smart phone along with hearing aids to help ease your tinnitus.  That will give you control of the masking noise and provide some relief from your perception of your tinnitus.  Although there is not a cure for tinnitus, there are ways to help!

Tinnitus patients MUST see a physician and be referred for tinnitus counseling and assistance. Some of these patients need psychiatric workups BEFORE audiological assistance.
