Hearing Team
What is a Hearing Center?
Our Hearing Center has been designed to provide you with a comfortable environment while our audiologist evaluates your hearing. You will be asked to sit in our sound proof room and will be given a pair of headphones to wear. Our audiologist will be on the other side of the glass sending signals to the headphones and asking you to respond in various ways as you hear the tones, speech sounds, or voices.
When should you see an audiologist?
You should make an appointment with our audiologists at Arkansas Otolaryngology Clinic if you see any signs of hearing loss. Some of these signs include needing to listen to the volume on your tv or radio louder than normal, being unable to hear voices clearly in a loud room, or finding yourself reading lips more often than listening to the words someone is saying.
Who needs a hearing test?
We administer hearing tests to people of all ages, beginning with an initial hearing test right after a baby is born. Hearing loss can affect all ages and have numerous causes, several of which may be treated and the hearing loss reversed. Whether it is yourself, your child, or your aging parent, we are here to offer our services and help restore your hearing to the state it was before the hearing loss occurred. Contact us today to make an appointment for your hearing screening.
When do you need to get hearing aids?
Hearing aids are recommended when an evaluation has been completed and there is no medical cause for your hearing loss. If a medical cause is determined, we will recommend treatment first to correct the issue. If after treatment the hearing is not restored, we will recommend a variety of hearing aids to give you back your quality of life.
How to tell if you need hearing aids.
If you notice hearing loss, you will want to call our office for a hearing evaluation, and we will help you determine if it’s time to try hearing aids. For children, we recommend further testing to determine the cause of the hearing loss and will recommend treatment when a conclusion is reached.
Which are the best hearing aids?
There are so many hearing aids on the market right now. They range from in ear, behind the ear, in the canal, completely in the canal, invisible in the canal, etc. They vary in size, shape, style, and sound processing. It would be hard to determine which hearing aid is the best for you without evaluating your particular hearing loss and determining which model would best meet your needs. We recommend coming in for an evaluation and letting us show you the many options we provide.
What is the average cost of a pair of hearing aids?
Just as there are a variety of hearing aids on the market, there is a wide range of cost for hearing aids. The average cost varies between $2,000-$3,000, but hearing aids can cost anywhere from $1,000-$7,000 depending on which brand you choose. Health insurance plans typically do not cover hearing aids, but some plans may cover them for children under the age of 21. Contact your specific provider to learn more about coverage.
